Mesic returns to politics


Former Croatian President Stipe Mesic returns to the political scene in the country as a candidate for parliament in upcoming elections early parliamentary elections, scheduled for September 11.

Mesic will be in the list of candidates for deputy of the Popular Coalition, led by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) of former Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic.

Mesic's candidacy Agreement was reached yesterday at a meeting of representatives of the CJS with a delegation of the Croatian Party of Pensioners (HSU), which is one of the members of the Popular Coalition.

HSU's leader Silvano Hrelja said that Mesic would be a candidate for deputy in the list that includes the region of Zagreb.

"Mesic said he wanted us to help the National Coalition and we said it would ask the coalition partners. We asked and they told us that there is no problem for him to appear on the list, "said Hrelja.

Under the agreement, Mesic will be even in tenth place in the list of the National Coalition, but thanks to preferential vote model, it is highly likely provide term as MP.

The opportunity to return to politics, Mesic announced by the end of April, when the Croatian parliament lifted his office, to which he was entitled as a former president possession of the land.
